We like to think we’re on the same page for the sake of arguing, but it’s only to keep the mind from wondering into territory that hasn’t been established.

It’s been brought to my attention several times this week that I have a weird taste in men…yes I do; allow me explain.

While most women take their time looking for the perfect man with the perfect hair, and the perfect smile, with the perfect arms, the perfect job, and the perfect car.

I’m in search of the man with the best sense of humor, the perfect personality who not only carries the world on his back, but can also brings the moon to me every night. I look for the man with the tender touch, and the soft eyes whose smile can light up the world (my world) after a long day.

This got me thinking about the phrase: All Men Are The Same.

I’m going to say that I completely disagree. None of the men I’ve ever dated in the past have been like one another. Now I’m also going to add, that I haven’t dated many to fully place them all in the same category.

Which brings me to the next topic: If by my horoscope I’m considered to be earth, why am I always searching for air?

There comes a time in a persons life when we have to stop looking for what’s perfect, and solely focus on what’s right. Many times I have walked into a situation thinking it was perfect, only to find that no matter how perfect it was in my head the fact of the matter is, compatibility is a must in any relationship.

Which brings us to my next topic: Horoscopes.

When I was younger I found myself with the most tedious question ever known in the history of me, “Why didn’t it ever work out?” After every relationship ended, I was always given the same lines…

“It was never you, it was me.”

“You were perfect.”

“I was wrong, and completely stupid in letting you go.”

Now a little older, a little bit wiser I’ve come to understand that no matter how many times I have tried to convince myself that this wasn’t the truth, I also have to accept the fact that I have been dating all the wrong signs.

Moreover, I find myself questioning this once more, is it really wise to date a sign that is not compatible to yours?

Edin started following me on twitter right after I tweeted about the Eiffel Tower 2.5 years ago, and the rest has been as they say: Pho·tog history.

Edin was born in Chihuahua Mexico, but lived most of his young adult life in Reno, one day without hesitation he decided to venture off cross country with his camera,  and by the time he turned around he had already settled  into a cozy little loft on South Beach, making Miami  his most precious muse yet.

I had been in search of a photographer for what seemed like forever, only because everyone in the social media world needs one, there’s no point in being a network junkie and not have photographer in your circle, it just doesn’t make any sense.

Out of  the many people I could have possibly come into contact with, I’m glad I now have him in my life, he is absolutely amazing. Last summer I had a choice between a NYC, LA or Miami photographer for the NOH8 Campaign picture: A La Risky Business, and once I was given the OK, I just had to go with Edin.  It would’ve been completely ridiculous of me not have picked him for such a campaign.

Like most people who come to Miami looking for inspiration, Edin has planted his roots in this beautiful city.  Don’t be surprised if you find him around  town doing fashion shows, climbing a building in Mid-Town for some crazy tutorial, jumping in a plane for some serious street photography, or simply laying low and taking shoots of the sunset.  Also you can find his work by checking out his page, following him on twitter, and ‘liking’ him on facebook.

Seems like the universe outside of JMMA has been missing John Mayer as well. I never thought that the boy who the world looked on as an “Open Mouth & Inserted Foot” type of guy would be causing such a commotion regarding his return to the music scene.  This year John will be performing in SXSW,  it’s been close to 12 years since he was last seen at the SXSW music conference, this would also be his first show since having to cancel on several events, including putting his 5th studio album on hold due to a granuloma he had removed in October of last year.

John will also be  performing in the New Orleans Jazz Fest in April,  and tickets are  available for both events.  It’s been quite the year for Mr. John Mayer, who took to travel the country in in silence for the search of inner peace, and now  that the wait is finally over I am super excited for a summer tour.  John always gives the best summer tours, and knowing that he’s done some heavy soul searching, brings a sense that this will top Battle Studies summer tour for sure, I feel it deep inside my heart.

Lets take a look back at some of the most interesting moments in John Mayer History, as we step forward into the future of an icon who is leaving his mark on the rest of you, and finally accepted for his talent.

As I walked the streets of Downtown on Saturday trying to catch the train home, I bypassed a couple on the corner of Flagler Street waiting for a bus. Both standing on the pavement facing one another, smiling, as their eyes shared moments between them only their hearts could understand. They looked freshly knew, as if they had just started dating one another, the lust in their face gave it away, and it made me feel completely foolish for having invaded their space.  As I walked up to the plank to await the South Bound train, I stood there looking out into the fading purple blanket that covered over the Miami sky, and I wondered: Was I ready to date again?

This brought on many questions on the way home, as I walked alone under the constant dark road of Hammocks Blvd, the word DATE quarreled with the walls of my mind trying to find an escape.  Here I was thinking of ways to break my uncomfortable silence, and it made me reflect on the many soundless moments I may have dismissed by cutting into a conversation with a partner.  Someone once said “Every now and then listening to nothing makes everything better,” I never understood that.

When it comes to dating when do we stop talking with our minds, and really start listening with our hearts?

This brings me to a time in 1998 when radio was something you listened to on your daily commutes, but for me back then radio was the enemy trying to take away the comfortable silence I once had in a relationship. This was a time when words were needed, but his company was a much better fit. We had tons of space, and in that space the enjoyment of one another silent gaze. He loved admiring me from the other side of the room; he would purposely sit across from me just to watch my every move.  Dating him was like dating a wall: Tall, cold and under a Faux color finish, beautiful to look at, you felt safe between his walls but cold to the touch because of his misplaced words.  The only thing I can share with you about this part of my life is that I felt completely lost once it was over. I know this doesn’t really tell you much, but bare with me here…everything I thought I knew about dating before this was wrong and everything I learned throughout this relationship was too.

For example:

Boy meets girl while she worked at Bath and Body Works, he dates her, and learns that she has children; he decides that he wants her, so he goes all in, finding that in a short amount of time he has fallen completely “in love”.  Fast forward three years later, he no longer feels his heart is in it, and leaves her completely heartbroken inside an apartment filled with 14 heart shaped balloons on Valentine’s Day.

The End.

All due to the fact that he was too scared to say, that he wasn’t ready for a real relationship. Yes, we all know that men are from Mars, and can be overly complicated, and women are from Venus, and can be overly emotional, but here’s what I’ve gathered from it all.  Men will break a woman’s heart for one reason, and one reason alone… because they are scared.

During this time it was safe to assume he only wanted one thing, although the war in his mind was too loud for words, you would think that the right thing to do was to walk away, turns out he felt it was better to have me in silence as so long as his words weren’t hurting me. News flash: It would have been better to put gum in my hair (I could have gone and gotten a cute hair cut) then to watch me completely fall apart.

Now I wanted a better understanding regarding this fear, so I took it upon myself to ask 68 of my  dearest friends the same small yet very simple question.

Give me three reasons why men would stop themselves from getting into a relationship with a woman.

Now prepare yourselves because the answers will not blow you away… at all!  I’m going to start of with the women first. Here’s a percentage given from the 36 women who responded to this survey.

1. Baggage……………….. 11% responded with baggage.
2. Commitment……………….. 100% responded with commitment
3. Fear……………….. 19.5% responded with fear
4. Trust……………….. 8% responded with trust
5. Sex……………….. 28% responded with sex
6. Ego ……………….. 19.5% responded with ego
7. Mommy Issues ……………….. 11% responded with mommy issues

Now here’s what the men had to say. Here’s a percentages given from the 32 men who responded to this survey.

1. Sex……………….. 99% responded with sex
2. Commitment………………..47% responded with commitment
3. Baggage……………….. 16% responded with baggage
4. Fear……………….. 12.5% responded with fear
5. Trust……………….. 0 responded with trust
6. Faith……………….. 6% responded with faith
7. Ego……………….. 16% responded with ego

As the day went on so did the million and one twisted questions, the word date still made zero sense, and although the survey took place yesterday, and this relationship ended almost 14 years ago, it seems not much has changes in the world of “Boy Meets Girl”.  Men will jump into something because get this; it feels good… only to realize it wasn’t want they wanted in the end.

I do believe I’m the only woman in the world who hates the Notebook.  There’s something about that movie I dislike, the only thing I enjoyed  most was the era it took place in, and of course the scene that won MTV’s best Kiss.  Now with that said, I think Ryan Gosling is one of the best actors out there right now. His craft is untouchable, and holding high ranks next to Leonardo DiCaprio, yes my list of actors is very small, but I have big names under my list.  He completely stole my heart in Blue Valentine, sure it was a strong movie to swallow, but the unconditional love ‘Dean Pereira’ had for his tiny dysfunctional family was just something every woman desires deep inside but will never say it out-loud.  Unfortunately for you Gosling seems to be picking up on his acting game, and heading into a more mature leading man’s role, I am a BIG Chick flick junkie, but if you can somehow tell me why I hated the Notebook, I might just give you my copy.

I have a big thing for the classics, I believe that anything B&W brings a kind of elegance to pictures, an accent pieces in a room, and especially to that perfect little dress.  Its the perfect novel every time one wears B&W it just screams: Romance, Confident, Passionate, and Boss.  The older I get the more I understand that I belong to this style, and for some reason no matter how trendy I tend to go, I always come back to this look.

Now this year I have decided to embrace 34 with grace, a little less makeup, a little less ironing of the hair, and a lot more curls and natural essence, because I can tell deep in my soul that this year is going to be about finding the beauty in everything.
