36 Chambers!

Happy 4th Anniversary to WajimaRose.com, and a very Happy 36 to me. Yes, 36–the year I enter into a kingdom of all possibilities, the year I break free from the nine times I have fallen victim to my own desires, causing all four chambers of my heart to separate as I singlehandedly died painful, emotional deaths. The year of my resurrection.

The year of Wu-Jima!

Benz walk

I possibly have the coolest job in the face of Miami, but that’s just my opinion, and since its my site, I’m just gonna go ahead and leave that comment right there.  I also work at one of the coolest places in town, and since most of you are constantly complaining about your jobs via facebook, I’m also gonna have to say its true. Thursday afternoon, after a series of the funniest office conversations ever taken in the face of MAN, I got ready for the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run event that took place in lovely Downtown Miami area. Needless to say, after a heck of a warm-up, and bumping into people I haven’t seen in forever, I am happy to report that I made the 5K run, in under an hour. I think its also safe to say, I’m back in shape and feeling absolutely better than most of you out there, without the hard-work, or plastic surgery to go with it.

There were a thousand and one things to do Friday night, and I didn’t wanna do any of it, but I put my big woman panties on, and head out to Artistic Vibes to enjoy real people, yes–REAL people.  Seems like a joke in a city full of superficial fakes, but I’m talking soulful, well grounded, positive and extremely talented people (funny, how they have survived among the masses). Narciso Hilario Montas, a friend of ours, hosted the event at Artistic Vibes that night, and although my mind and body seemed to have been on vacation from one another due to the weeks’ activities, I’m glad I was able to make it out there in time to see this…sigh.

Later that evening I found myself in Homestead, vibing to the radiant streams the moon was transmitting through me. During the week I had developed a craving for a burger, yeah –a red meat burger (que asco) something I had given up years ago, 10 years to be exact.  But, Skrollz treated me to something out of this world fantastic… a Toston and chicken burger, BRO!

I woke up from my late night food hang-over and knew exactly what I needed to recuperate, a nice long talk with the sea.  So the ever charming and talented DaVincci and I headed out to THE spot for a full afternoon of raw conversations, inspirational music, and hummus. Later that night he treated me to some pre-birthday sushi. Saturday was absolutely perfect. Look out for his new EP, which drops sometime this week. Trust me you’re going to love this one!

There’s something special about Sunday’s, yes –it’s known as the day of rest, the day of The Lord and the day before Monday, but for me it’s become more important than that, it’s the day I get to make Sundays amazing again, and there isn’t a better way to do so than taking a trip down to Key Largo for a kayaking afternoon. My friend Hector was so kind to invite me, knowing I had never been kayaking before, and felt it was a great way to welcome the eve of my birthday doing something I’ve never done before (when was the last time you did something for the first time?) and after a few accidents with mangroves, and a bridge, I was certified a kayak expert.

Before we knew it, three hours had passed and I was starving up a river, so we loaded the kayaks, and headed over to Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill for fish tacos and white chocolate macadamia nut cheese cake.

And that my friends is how you Celebrate 28 Days of ME.

Easter Weekend 2014.

What a difference a year makes. This year I found myself making up for lost time. What should have been a year of adulation, turned into a year of chances, heavy emotions and manifestations. Everything was placed on hold, everything but breathing, and as I slowly re-enter the world I had once left behind, I’ve decided to make it a celebration. Everyday since the 1st of April, I’ve done something to celebrate love, life, and everything in between, including celebrating 28 days of me. Twenty-eight days leading up to my glorious 36, the year I have accomplished big goals that will lead me to a beautiful dream, and since I grew up here; there’s no better way to celebrate who I am than by reuniting with my first love. The ocean.

Saturday afternoon, I headed with Skrollz to Wynwood for a photo-shoot. He’s been diligently working on a project to bring writing back to the youth. Something that’s been lost due to social media, lack of parenting and game systems.
welcome to Paperstax, a project dedicated to revitalizing the art of personal reflection. The project is about giving young people pocketable notebooks to inspire them to put themselves on paper, one page at a time.

Sunday: the day of reflection, the holiest day ever, Easter Sunday. I drove up to Broward  for some Easter fun which included tons of baking, BBQ-ing and Jello-O shots. As I sat back and took on the lake view, I suddenly realized that I have reached a place of serenity in my life.  As I reflect on the past, I am now confident about where my life is going, I’m cherished by those who are in it, and most importantly I’ve come to accept things I’ve had trouble seeing before, and as the sunsets on this graceful day, I have to say, I’ve never been more happier with myself.

Rock is not dead in Miami!

Ryan Rachal

Who remembers that annoying rumor at the beginning of the year which stated that Rock was dead in Miami? This rumor went on to cancel all the rock stations, leaving only that annoying ghetto power trip (I truly feel bad for those who deal with everyone in that show on a daily.) Even Y100 isn’t edgy enough, but that just goes to show the times we’re in.  Where we push Taylor Swift to our listeners, and allow studio time to be trashed by having KimK record a song, rather than let a Rock station takeover the air waves. Needless to say its been difficult for local rock bands in Miami to keep their fans happy, when there’s not a lot of places allowing them to preform.  For you see there’s a curtain night of the week dedicated to what bring in money, and according to Miami, Rock isn’t a money making movement, until JAZID last night.  It was a rainy evening on South Beach, something that usually keeps the local Salsa lovers, Pop junkies, and Hip Hop swaggers home. JAZID opened its door at 10:30pm allowing a few standing outside to take cover from the tedious rain, and with them came rolling in 7 Seas, who knew that the name alone would create such waves for everyone that night.  I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them practice long hours for this event, and while it was in the comfort of a studio, now I can truly say that I’ve had the honor of seeing them preform live in-front of a sea of people supporting their music, that little place was jammed packed.  I was totally blown away by their energy, and what was amazing about the night was getting a chance to see that Miami has a lot of rockers under its sand, and I hope that radio takes note of this again.

After 7 Seas showered the room with some feel good tunes, next up was DeRevo another local Rock band (in your face critics) who’s energy was out of this world.  These guys have a message, and it was intense; I’m not one for all the screaming in your face (I usually like to be the one doing it) type of music but Frank K the lead singer of DeRevo was pumping the crowd so hard that there were girls doing a mosh! I am not kidding, I haven’t seen a mosh since Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003 in Orlando. I didn’t stay long to see Elephant in the room perform, but from what I’ve heard they were just as great.  Thank you to those who didn’t allow the rain to keep them from coming out to JAZID’s, and thank you to those Miami Rock bands making it known that Rock in NOT dead, its just getting started again!

Who are the local bands in your area keeping the Rock movement alive?

Monday’s Eye Candy – Willy Monfret

The first time I saw Willy Monfret was in that “Right Through Me” Nicki Minaj video, and I just about almost feel out of my chair at how insanely beautiful this man is.  From that moment on I just knew that I  had to put him on a Monday’s Eye Candy Spot.  I figured with the summer upon us how can I not have a hot sizziling man for you? Right? Well I’ll leave you know with, Monfret. Enjoy.
